Princely pugs model for Mulberry Mutts

30 Jul

If you’ve ever had the misfortune to spend any time with me, you’ll be aware of my pug obsession. Pugsession? King of the dog world, that’s the essence of it. Mulberry agree, which is presumably why they’ve chosen the most amazing species on the planet to model the new ‘Mulberry Mutt’ line. I know most people hate dog clothes, but I say people who hate dog clothes hate life and probably eat babies so WHO ARE THEY TO JUDGE?

The LOVE blog reported on the range, and claim it’s in store now. I can’t find it anywhere online, but maybe by ‘in store’ they meant in those actual shops that exist ‘in the real world’.

Topshop’s Horror Girl range is my fave

30 Jul

I wish Topshop had never released their ‘horror girl’ range. I’ve been in three times this week and already bought half of it.

Oops.

Oonagh O’Hagen’s take on the tote

20 Jul

I’m sure you’ve seen these already, but here they are again for posterity. Oonagh O’Hagen (author of all-round good back ‘I Lick My Cheese’ and Saint Martins graduate/lecturer) has created a limited edition series of totes for Browns. As those of you with eyes will see, each one features a screen of an iconic designer bag. I guess £40 is a little pricey for a tote which will no doubt some get stained by whatever mysterious crap always stains my totes, but there you go. They’re funny! I like them. That’s all. Buy them at Browns while you still can, I imagine they’ll sell out in about a day.

Lacoste teams up with Fernando and Humberto Campana

19 Jul

Lacoste have teamed up with Brazilian designers Fernando and Humberto Campana for their 4th round of collector’s edition shirts… The limited run of 20,000 polos is based on Fernando and Humberto’s famous (well, famous in the right circles) Alligator Chair. The stuffed-toy-stuffed chair they designed back in 2003 represents how alligators pile up on mud banks during the dry season in the ~real world~ and this design is obviously what influenced their polo shirts. Kinda makes sense to get existing alligator fans on board with Lacoste, right?

Neato designs, and what makes it better is that they’ve been produced with the help of Coopa-Roca, a socially responsible sustainable development organization based in the Rocinha favela of Rio de Janeiro. The charity provides work for the creative craftswomen and seamstresses who live in the underprivileged neighborhood, so that’s nice to hear. Good luck getting your hands on one of these babies. Once upon a time I went canoeing (I know) in Florida and my mama nearly passed out in the heat, closely avoiding being eaten by an alligator. True fact!

Brown paper bag x Chanel

15 Jul

I’m 99% sure you’ll have seen this picture which is currently doing the rounds, but here it is just in case you missed it. The ever-aware Jak & Jil are doing a new blog for POP, and this little number was snapped last week. DIY? I might just start drawing logos on everything I own.

Seen this? I kinda need it in my life, but no-one seems to know much about the label, “happiness is a $10 tee”. They’re Italian, which is really helpful considering I was in Italy last week and am now stuck back in London. Handy!

Kings & Queens by Victoire de Castellane

13 Jul

After yesterday’s Memento Mori ramblings, it was kind of a coincidence to see the Dior Joaillerie ‘Kings & Queens’ collection by Victoire de Castellane on High Snobette today. You’re meant to own a pair, which would be nice, but is probably inconceivable… Could be good as an ~alternative~ wedding ring… zomg.

Memento Mori finds from Venice

12 Jul

While we were away, my boyfriend pointed out that my ‘goodbye I’m going to Venice’ post should have been called, ‘Here today, gondola tomorrow’. So for that oversight, I apologise.

I feel pleasingly full to the brim with art. We spent the best part of the week sniffing out everything the Biennale had to offer, both on and off site. When we weren’t on the Biennale trail, we seemed to be in art galleries anyway… it was a wankishly cultural holiday and I’m sorry to say that I’m very happy about that. I hope to ~blog~ about some of the highlights, but whether the 402320 emails awaiting me at work tomorrow will allow me to do so, only time will tell. One thing I will say is that I was psyched to go to the Museo Fortuny at last. It’s awesome, probably the best curated place I’ve ever been.

If you’re planning a trip to Venice any time soon, holler at me because you have to stay at the apartment we rented. It’s insanely well located for just about everything, including the produce market where we spent many a happy morning ogling fruit the size… well, the size fruit should be. You should also eat at Osteria Bea Vita, which made me enjoy wolfing down whole octopi like no other restaurant has ever managed.

ANYWAY enough of the Dear Diary-worthy rambling. I wanted to tell you about this weird jewellery store I found. It was closed whenever we walked past, but the window was full of awesome things, and I managed to track down a website too. I warn you now, the site is questionable at best. But YEGOD the jewels. They specialise in Memento Mori – the skull (here we go) encrusted talismen that are designed to remind you of your mortality. Memento Mori is ‘remember you will die’ in Latin, in case you skipped that class. I’m just gonna crib from the site for a moment in case you don’t know this… they’re ‘an abstract warning of death, especially [popular] in the 16th and 17th centuries. They include finger rings, brooches, pendants, watch cases, earrings, bracelets etc. The articles were usually mad eof gold with black enamelled motifs or set with gemstones.’

So far so awesome. I really wanted the gold leaf human skull, but as you’ll see on the site, the price is ‘confidentia’. Here are some other highlights… They’re largely antiques (real antiques, not things from the 80s… take another 200 years off). I die repeatedly.

Sorry for the wordiness on this post. I missed the Internet, what can I say? Sorry for the random pics too, I couldn’t bear all the words. OH & before I forget. Here’s the site. Venice Jewels. Don’t be put off by the name or the abysmal Geocities layout.

Planet earrings for super-geeks

1 Jul

Saw these on Is Mental this evening… rad vintage planet earrings from VintageStarrBeads on Etsy. I get a bit of a boner for any vintage lucite, and the WTF-ery of these earn them extra points. What possible 1970s sci-fi situation could these have been designed for? The intrigue. I love them. The rest of the Etsy shop has some right old bargains too… well worth a look.
