Diary of a crush

2 Aug

My love for the moody teenage hair from Louise Goldin is well documented, and, as you may have read, reached its pinnacle this week when I went to a TIGI trend event and saw the very thing created before my eyes.

I guess I’m pig ignorant, because I had no idea that TIGI had been responsible for this look at the time of the show. Still, I’ve more than made up for lost time now, browsing the look book and making notes. Thank you Paul Hanlon, for informing me that the look is supposed to be ‘slightly eerie’. Of course it is! They also said at the event that it was supposed to look like she’d got caught in the rain on her night out. Yes! Anyway, here are the instructions on how to ~get the look~ yourself. Should you want to.

So we start off sectioning hair with a radial parting – basically parting the hair in to two halves, front and back.

Put each section in to a twisted bun. TOP TIP: Regardless of whether you want to copy this look, this technique is a great way to just get texture in to your hair for nice waves.

Use a diffuser to slowly dry each section. People who don’t get diffusers are like people that don’t get Velcro rollers. It’s on the of the most useful ways to get texture and volume in to your hair, quickly. I swear by mine.

This is really just about nailing the look. Separate your hair in to two, and clamp in place.

This is amazing, for a geek like me. Spread a hair net across the back of your hair and dry through it, for targeted styling. They also showed us to use a net like this to apply a spray gel or whatever product on to the parting, allowing more targeted application – like a slightly greasy, wetlook finish around the perimeter.

Finally, pin hair back with tissue padding and let it set. Perfection.
