Obsessed with this bag from River Island. Don’t know if I love it or hate it yet though…
Haunting the chapel
29 SepHow the hell did I not know about For Whom The Wedding Bell Tolls – the heavy metal wedding covers album? Don’t worry, it’s on Spotify.
Almost makes a gal wanna give up her beliefs and get married!
The warmth of the sun within me at night
28 SepDolce and Gabbana was perfect. That’s what summer should look like. I think my pal Amee put it best when she said, “Dolce & Gabbana SS11 is making me feel sick in an Isabel Marant AW10 way – nauseous, feverish, sleepless.” Me too, buddy, me too.
Can’t say any more about Erdem that you haven’t already heard. Let’s just say white lace is replacing black as my favourite thing in the world. Goths in hot weather, take note.
Three’s a trend, as we say in the world of short deadline journalism, and lo! I spy THREE white lacy collections on the Milan catwalks. Alessandro Dell’Acqua’s Brioni is definitely reaching confirmation gown territory, but ah, I love it.
I hate Jil Sander for bringing back the peplum, but the colour in this collection is blissful.
Nice jersey shapes and colours at No21…
I do love a floral, and D&G did a suitably summery job. Alas, high street florals aren’t always top notch, and I fear that this collection – particularly the tiered maxis – might spell some horrendous imitations. Still, I look forward to being proved wrong in six months time.
Black hot glistening shadow
28 SepAs you may be aware, a couple of weeks ago I set up a pop-up shop in collaboration with the good people at Next. One of the best things about having your own shop is having first dibs on the best stuff, which is precisely what I’ve been doing. I wanted the furry Almost Famous gilet above since the first moment I spied it in the lookbook, but LO, it was a mission to find. A sell-out everywhere (even in my own shop), it looked as though I was going to have to go without my absolute favourite pick of the new season collection. Over the past few days I have trawled every Next store in London, only to be disappointed. Today, I made a last minute visit to the Covent Garden branch, and, disappointingly, couldn’t find it anywhere. Just as I was leaving, I spotted an employee carrying one of the furry creations, putting it behind the till in a bag with some lucky swine’s name on it. I pounced on him the minute he emerged, and asked if he had any more. As it happens, there was one left, in the basement. The Mother Theresa of retail told me he’d go and get it for me straight away, and emerged mere moments later with the beast you see above. HAPPY ENDING. The young man in question was all round fantastic – and not just because he found me my gilet. He was helpful and nice, and complemented me extensively on my next purchase…
Yeah that’s right. I have about 50 coats so not sure I really need another, but hey, do any of us need any of the clothes we buy? No, precisely. This astounding pink and purple creation is faintly ridiculous, but if you can’t look like a Las Vegas drag queen in winter, when can you?
She’s all of this and more
25 SepDeborah ‘Debo’ Vivien Cavendish, Dowager Duchess of Devonshire is in LOVE magazine? And no-one thought to tell me? Thanks, you bastards. It’s OK though, I found out for myself about two months after the magazine came out so y’know, I don’t feel like too much of a dick. Honestly, I feel like I need to hand back my Mitford Fan Club membership card.
I couldn’t find the shoot anywhere online, so I painstakingly photographed it all with my phone – just in case anyone is as slack as me and wasn’t aware of it. Under the cut, because the pics are large and plentiful.
City lights are often blurred
19 SepLondon Fashion Week is flying by, and I’ve spent the last few days divvying up time between my mum (happy belated 60th!) and getting around the shows. The highlight so far has been sharing breathing space with Mr John Galliano at Fashion Fringe. We stood side by side for a few precious moments, as I scarfed some Wagamama scran – that’s what I call party food. Anyway, tonight is more of the same, so here is a pitiful trio of favourites so far;
Betty Jackson… I know, right? It’s just this sunflower print, really. So lovely, so summer, so mum’s recycled bedsheets from the 70s that are always so much softer than new ones. The whole look actually reminds me of my childhood doll, Miss Muffet. Can’t believe I’m about to share this, but she was a sponge (SHUT UP) covered with a vintage tablecloth fabric from my mum’s student years. Obviously there was a doll face sewn on too and hands, but that print is really similar. This all makes me sound like a weird child who played with sponges, but honestly, it was just the padding. I’m not weird.
Love the top knots at Sass and Bide, love the fringing, and love the tasty peachy, pink fizz palette.
Where to begin? The hair is amazing, the nails were too, and the collection appeals to the seventies disco obsessive within (and without). Mmm flares and crop top. Topshop just keep getting better and better and better. When will this be in store please?
