Just when the sky got shiny and bright

16 Feb

Bravissimo got in touch with me recently, asking if I’d like to come in for a fitting. I’ve not had a proper bra fitting since uni and despite the fact I’ve gained about two dress sizes (not to mention numerous years) since, I’m still gooning around in the same old size bras. Much like getting a carbon monoxide tester, getting fitted for a bra is just something I kept putting off. Like a lot of women I just chose a size that sounded nice and normal and stuck to it. My boobs aren’t big enough to be a size that affects my clothing choice/lifestyle, all my bras seemed to fit ok, so… why bother, I guess?

The thing is, I know full well that getting a well-fitting bra is important – it affects your posture, your back, your breast tissue, how your clothes look and fit… Why leave that to some years old, rounded-up-to-an-even-number size?

So – I went for my fitting.

Bravissimo don’t use tape measures, it’s all done by sight and feel (that’s the feel of the bra on you, not the fitter having a feel…). Michelle, my designated bra-guru did a cracking job of sizing me up, making me feel totally comfortable, and ultimately giving me a bra that fits and supports adequately. I learnt how to put on a bra properly, which after about 15 years has been a revelation. I’ve also gone from a 34C (that old chestnut size that everyone goes for) to a 32DD – who knew? Oh, and I found out that your back supports 80% of your boobs, which is why it’s so important to make sure the back fits properly.

Bravissimo don’t rush you, come out with any sales pitch, or flog you bras just to get you in and out quickly. They take their time, let you try on every bra in the shop (sorry about that), and genuinely care about making sure you leave with a bra that fits comfortably and makes your boobs look rad. Oh, and it’s not just about big boobs, which is what I assumed before today.

Go get your boobs measured at Bravissumo, tell ‘em I sent you.

Disclaimer: Bravissimo bra fittings are free for everyone, with no obligation to buy. I was invited by the PR though, and got a free bra – as well as my extra cup sizes.

I love Bravissimo! They made such a difference to my life when they fitted me and you’re right – there was no pressure to buy etc.

I actually can’t believe how different a well-fitting bra feels. I feel like all my other bras now need to be burned, they just feel so loose and unsupportive. I am a convert!
