Lovely t-shirts from independent Tel Aviv-based label, An’Ka. The summer 2011 collection is inspired by natural history museums – and let’s face it, we all love natural history museums. Highlight of my NYC trip (well, after Shake Shack and Bierkraft) was our rainy day spent at the museum, even if every other tourist in the city had the same idea.

My favourite is the Diamond Horses shirt, but you can see and purchase the whole collection at Sense of Fashion.

…Also love this previous season ‘Kitty Magic’ t-shirt, which is inspired by (yes!) voodoo and ‘Chips the cat’.

There are few things more tedious than people who insist that they are above something when the rest of the country is suffused with festive spirit. What are you, a goth teenager sulking in your room to The Cure on Christmas Day?

Happy (belated) Easter! This cross shirt from Style Stalker is a fine souvenir of one of the best Easter weekends I’ve had in years.

Some of my personal highlights from the Royal Wedding Tat tumblr. Unfortunately as the blog doesn’t approve of any of the merchandise, there are no links to buy these treats…. sorry. Let me know if you know!

Thanks to Kris, I’m delighted to inform that the tattoo pic above is by Harry Draws Pictures.

Guardian-inspired ‘My Other Mug Supports the Abolishment of the Monarchy’ mug.

Kate Loves Willy ale. As a CAMRA member, I’m aiming to track this down.

Incredible. Just. Incredible.

Fairy liquid.

If I was Kate Middleton, I would 100% be wearing this beneath my wedding dress.

That Twin of mine is always up to something, be it secretly taking photos of my house or marketing her own brand of dog shampoo (true story!). Her latest venture is selling classic leather satchels and luggage along with buddy Helena.

Greensitts Heritage Luggage store lives on the second floor of Affleck’s Palace in Manchester, or you can shop online on their eBay store. I am assured a new website is on its way any day now but for now – shop in Manchester or on eBay.

Available in an array of summery colours, the stand-out item is – what else? – this season’s satchel. Prices start at £45 or you can pick up a laptop-sized bigger boy for £55.

My choice is baby pink, predictably.

This post was sponsored by Twin, who makes me do things against my will in return for poetry dug out of her teenage diaries (‘Notes From The Compromising Rebel’) – which, by the way Twin, I can’t find. Send me some highlights, I miss that poetry.

You can always rely on Susie Bubble to make you want to spend all your money on your clothes. I saw this Wood Wood t-shirt from Goodhood on Style Bubble earlier and OBVO it’s my bag. Combining Beach Boys Cooper Black and a nice chunk of the Cure to make a semi-nonsensical slogan… I mean, I just…

Susie’s picture from instore excited me no end because it showed the shirt styled over a skirt – I have so many  t-shirts from my adidas-buying, oversized everything-era, many of which I’m reluctant to get rid off. I love graphic tees and continue to buy them, despite the fact that they are kinda tricky to wear with skirts and dresses. IDEAS!

Did you ever read this Guardian feature about Cooper Black, amongst other fonts?

The lonely feelings

One of my favourite films growing up was (weirdly?) WWII comedy Kelly’s Heroes. Despite starring Clint Eastwood and featuring a parody of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, it’s definitely not a Western… but it did start me off on a Sunday afternoon obsession with cheesy cowboy films – something about all those sweeping panoramas, big skies and (let’s face it) leathers makes them a visual treat, even when the storylines leave something to be desired.

Meek’s Cutoff is (as I’m sure everyone knows by now) an upcoming western directed by Kelly Reichardt and starring Michelle Williams. The USP – and what makes it 100% more exciting for me – is that it’s a western told from the point of view of the women, rather than the capow cowboys. I’m no good at synopsising so here’s what else it’s about from, where else, the New Yorker:

Three families, with only a few wagons and oxen as possessions, head West on the high desert in 1845, led by a garrulous but evasive tall-tale artist named Stephen Meek, who may or may not be taking them to a beautiful valley in Oregon. When they capture a lone and unhappy Indian, Meek wants to kill him, but Emily —one of the wives, a woman of strong, steady character—protects the Indian, who just might bring them to a lake or a river. The journey from nowhere to nowhere becomes an absurdist quest, as if John Ford had been overtaken along the trail by Samuel Beckett. Kelly Reichardt moves us from the grandiosity of Western myth to the bone-wearying stress of mere existence. She gives us a new kind of feminist and materialist realism, with an emphasis on repetitive work, much of it done by the women. It’s a pleasureless, anti-sensuous aesthetic, but the movie, in its thorny, grudging way, is stirring, with many startling details.

I read a really good interview with Kelly in the Guardian a few weeks ago which provided an insight in to the dedication that went in to the production. They used wagons from the period and as the film was shot chronologically on a super-tight deadline and budget, the actors weren’t allowed to change or clean their costumes. COOL! In the aforementioned interview the Guardian said: “there’s no room here for the niceties of costume drama.” I dunno – all those vibrant colours against the wide arid sandy panoramas work pretty nicely for me.

Out now // Watch the trailer here!

Another recent purchase – the ASOS Intarsia Cape! It’s basically like wearing a Snuggie in public.

Just spotted it’s now on sale, obv. Honestly this was such a good buy, I took it to the park last week when it was really sunny but a bit windy. Lying on the grass snuggled up on it with a built in pillow was blissful and I assume I will be doing more of the same with it in Barcelona.
