Seeing the thinking behind a designer’s collection has always held a huge appeal to me.
At university I always loved looking at my classmate’s sketch books and ‘learning journals’ – the godforsaken ‘inspiration diaries’ which we forced to keep. Seeing those initial scribbled shapes and colours was always way more exciting than studying tech specs.
For the first time ever, the fabulous Sonia Rykiel has released a selection of her early sketches, which are due to be auctioned off for charity after a short exhibition in Paris.
I love these images and they really capture the essence of Ms Rykiel’s designs. So colourful, vivacious and full of life!
Got to say though, our technician Inge would’ve flipped a lid at the lack of armholes and plackets. Just cos it’s creative, doesn’t mean it can’t be accurate eh?
